OUR REAL PURPOSE

OUR REAL PURPOSE

For we dare not make ourselves of the number , or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise .
2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV

In 2 Samuel 24,  David tells Joab to number the people. Joab, respectfully, in verse 3 rebukes David.  Joab tells David that no matter the number of the people that he can see that God has multiplied them a hundredfold. David refused to heed Joab’s correction. Then Joab asked David a profound question: v3…..why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

David numbered the people out of the pride of his heart. David must have been experiencing some fear because he trusted more in an arm of flesh than the righteous arm of God. He thought that the bigger his army was the more powerful and frightening he would appear to his enemies.

David’s sin was in numbering the people out of pride of heart rather than trusting in God. David put his faith in the strength of man and is clearly walking in the flesh. David did this even though he knew that it would anger God. God makes it clear that we are to trust in God only.

Is our source of pride really any different today? We may not count soldiers and armies to feed our prideful confidence, or determine our self worth but, consider this….

Today, do we count our success, our worth, and our popularity by how much greater our’s is  compared to so and so? With social media keeping tallys on our behalf, do we relish in the number of people out there that eagerly feed our egos?   Do we measure our standards by the ruler of standards that the world sets for us?    Is our pride and value  all about how many Likes, Followers, Shares, Re-Tweets, Favorites, Re-pins, Comments, Subscribes, Members, Re-blogs, Hearts, or Fan Mail  we have acquired?   Do we become disappointed when the numbers of clicks do not increase fast enough or when someone else has more “Friends” than we do?

Are we, me and you, guilty of such pride and ego stroking? Consider the following questions for yourself and decide.

1. Is my pride and value all about how much money I earn or how I can look like, be like, act like, and imitate the trend-setters of my time?
2. Do I strive to be better than those I envy?
3. Do I worry whether I am part of the élite circle or feel socially ostracized when I realize I am not?
4. Is my pride and value tied to the groups, societies, or Churches in which I lead, attend, or follow?
5. Do I seek to lead or support in positions that I feel are more prestigious instead of where God wants us to serve?
6. When a fellow Christian slips up or backslides, regardless of how big or small, do I  clap my hands in prideful joy instead of clasping my hands in prayer?

Our value is not dependant on what other people think about us or how well connected we are. Our worth is not dependant on us being the member of the right groups. Yet, we can, so easily, fall into the trap of thinking that other’s opinions are the final defining word of who we are and that their comments and their acceptance sets the magnitude of our destiny.  Why do we consider these sources and measure ourselves by these standards?

We are to seek none other than God for approval. We are to build our witness and share our testimony, according to the anointing He has placed on each of us.

Do not look to the world to determine who you are, who you should be, your value, or your destiny. God is the only real source of which we are to measure ourselves by. Our value is given to us by God; was paid by the shedding of the blood of Christ Jesus. Each one of us is worth the life of His only Son. Each one of us is fearfully and wonderfully made, a little lower than the angels, and we are fashioned in His own image. The children of God are the heirs to His Kingdom. There is no earthly acceptance or earthly reward worth more than a personal relationship with Christ Jesus.

We must choose to love people without exception. Our purpose is to share the gospel and give God glory. Our sole purpose and focus should be to share Christ Jesus with everyone, so they can “Follow” Him, instead of counting how many people are following us. Our aim must be to “Share” His truth of Salvation so He can give them a new “Heart”, instead of caring how many Hearts, Likes or Shares we receive on a post.

Our post is to stand in the gap and lead the lost to Christ Jesus, so that each soul can repent for their sins, be saved by faith, and receive eternal life. Then they are to go forward and stand in the gap and lead the lost to Christ Jesus, so that each soul can repent for their sins, be saved by faith, and receive eternal life. We are to bring as many lost – the multitude- of hurting, wounded, misguided people to Christ as is possible within our life time.  It is a beautiful thing when we live out our purpose!

We should all seek to walk in the example that Jesus gave us and in such a way that when our heavenly Father looks at us he can see an undeniable resemblance.

If you want to “Get Real” stop looking at the world and put your focus on God.  (See Acts 26:18 KJV) Step out in faith and just started doing something for God as you share the gospel of Christ Jesus.  Choose to engage where you think there is a need or somewhere you think you would like to serve or somewhere you have been asked. If you do this and then expect God to lead you from there and place you where He wants you to serve Him, then He will.  He will lead those that follow, but first you must to get up and start.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Revelations 1:8 AKJV

Spend your life pleasing God rather than people.
