GUARD YOUR SOUL
“If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain,”. James 1:26 KJV
Recently, I was listening to a Professor from Canada. I listened to several of his talks and thought he had some very good insights. He referenced the Bible often and spoke of God without hesitation.
I found myself intrigued because I was very interested in his perspective and could easily believe that some of it was wise advice and worth adopting as my own.
However, the more I listened to this man, there seemed to be a disconnect of heart in his words. His verbiage danced around the Word of God and the name of God without any hint of commitment of belief. His words had the illusion of being true but was not complete truth. His words were philosophical but not Spirit filled profound insights.
So I did a little background look-see to determine if what I was perceiving had any basis. I wanted to know what the foundation of his truth was based on.
This man is a professor of psychology with a particular interest in psychology of religious and ideological belief.
In an interview he was asked “are you a Christian?” and responded “I suppose the most straight-forward answer to that is yes”.
At this point I was thrilled because I felt I had misjudged and that it was possible to learn something from his perspective.
Later, in an interview, he was asked if he believed in God, In which he responded: “I think the proper response to that is No, but I’m afraid He might exist”
My heart sank. I knew without doubt that this man was lost and was deceiving himself that by claiming to be Christian, for fear that God might exist, he was somehow safe – just in case.
You are either Christian because Jesus Christ is your Saviour or you are lost. A Christian believes in God the Father, Jesus Christ – the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit.
The lost, at most, consider the Bible as a parable and the Trinity as a good role model for living life.
Christians are given the gift of eternal life because we have by faith received Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
One is not a Christian just because they adopt the label. The lost are not saved or receive eternal life just because they are afraid God might exist.
I am by no means saying that there are not many intelligent people in this world, many that are lost, that we can all learn something from. I am saying to be diligent in guarding your soul when it comes to swallowing religious talk as God given truth.
Many people can speak partial Biblical truth when the truth is not in them.
ALL Christians should be on guard regarding what they allow themselves to listen to and watch. Self censorship is imperative in this world. We live in an age where all bets are off and there is no limit to the level of filth and sin ready for quick and easy consumption.
We must be discerning and filter what we see, hear, and believe from others. A twist of a word or phrase can lead us down the wrong path quickly. Measure all truth against the ultimate truth of God’s Word.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Colossians 2:8-10 KJV
When you spend time in the pages of the Bible and know God’s truth. You will be able to recognize when you hear or read anything that does not exactly line up with God’s Word.
I pray that the knowledge this professor holds in his mind will move to his heart and he will find real Truth. I pray that by the grace of God, that this mere man will know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God most assuredly exists. God more that exists, God Lives
GOD IS REAL AND GOD LOVES YOU !!!
