SAMARITANS IN HEART 

“But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,”
Luke 10:33 AKJV

Why is it that when we see certain things like sad movies, cute children, or tiny puppies our hearts melt and from our lips escapes the involuntary….”ahhhhhh….”

But the same said person, suffering this melted heart and compassionate outburst, can witness a fellow human-being suffer a physical ill, endure a life setback, or face financial difficulty and they will turn a blind eye as they go on with their own life.

There are an abundance of excuses for holding tight to one’s time or wallet, such as too busy,  tired, greed, the economy, unknown future needs, or claiming to one does not know anyone in need. However, I would say that the number one reason for not reaching out to those in need is a devilish voice that whispers somewhere inside our mind saying … “They are not worthy.” “They did it to themselves.” “How do you know they REALLY deserve it?”

The answer is, “you do not know.” That Is NOT for us to judge. The scriptures do not enlighten us to the reason the man was beaten and left on the side of the road.  It does not tell us if that man was an innocent victim of another’s sin or if perhaps it was a repercussion of a sin that he had committed toward those who beat him. Scripture does not tell us that the Samaritan qualified the beaten man before his heart was filled with compassion for him, nor before he put out his hand and money to help the stranger. Remember, to reach out and bless the seemingly undeserving is, by God’s definition…..Grace.

1 John 3:17 IISB warns us “But whoever has the world’s goods, and beholds his brother in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?”

We are to have compassion on ALL people, like the Good Samaritan, without being judgmental or calculating our reward.

Scripture, repeatedly, states that Jesus was moved by compassion. Compassion is a call for action. True compassion requires that you diligently seek to reconcile the need that triggered the outpouring of your heart. Compassion is not an emotion for the sightseers of life.

It is God, not us, who deems if someone is “worthy” or not.  If anyone takes from the blessings meant to be given to the poor in spirit and those who lack provisions, under false pretenses, that same person will not prosper. The giver will be blessed because they gave of a willing heart, but the deceptive receiver will answer to God for their sin.

The disciples and the baskets in Matthew 14 remind us that we are to give in faith and know that by His hand it will prosper.  Proverbs 19:17 tells us that  “that which he hath given will He pay him again.” We must remember that we can not out give God.

Those who seek to relieve the wants and miseries of others shall be blessed. We should pray to be generous in heart (without suspicion), eager to share the gospel, and filled with unselfish compassion.  Seek God’s guidance in everything you do.

1 John 3:17 IISB warns us “But whoever has the world’s goods, and beholds his brother in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?”

(15) By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.
(16) But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased .

Parable of the Good Samaritan

(30) And Jesus answering said , A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment , and wounded him, and departed , leaving him half dead .
(31)And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side .
(32) And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side .
(33) But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed , came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
(34) And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
(35) And on the morrow when he departed , he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more , when I come again , I will repay thee.
